Meeting Will & Kate!!

This is Mummy's post today --- take it away Mummy! Thanks Audrey - yes, it was quite the day for me to be on Parliament Hill to see Prince William and Princess Catherine on their FIRST official visit! See them above on the screen? This is where we saw the most of them, although we did have a pretty good close encounter....read on! Rick was a good sport and came with me to see (eh-hem, stalk!) the Royals. It was super busy, but we made it downtown and took some pictures in the crowds, and caught the marching in of the band. We arrived at 1030 and quickly jumped one barricade, and then found ourselves pushed back by police into the front lines of another barricade. We enjoyed the wait in the sun, sitting on the curb before they started pulling in the cages for us!! We thought this would be our chance to see them up close in the landau! And when they started bringing in more police on bikes to guard us, we really were excited that they would be driving right by. As we waited, I took some pics of my tribute Royal engagement ring, next to the Parliament buildings to commerorate the occasion! Alas, the landau turned up onto the grass lawn before they came to our area ---- but I still got some great pics from afar! Yes, there is Princess Kate in her red maple leaf fascinator - thanks for the Canadian pride! We watched the rest of the festivities on the large TV screens (can you see the young Royals up there on the screen?), and were impressed by the 21 gun salute that left a lot of fog in the air.....can you see it here in the air? And the Snowbirds flew overhead - here is a great pic of them (like it Gramps?!) After the concert which included Sam Roberts and Great Big Sea, we waited again as we knew they were coming out in the car RIGHT in front of us!!! Check out this pic of Prince William's hand (*sigh* my camera of course decided to freeze just as Prince William and I had locked eyes and I was about to snap a pic....so we got the BACK of his hand, ha!) But Rick got a great video (below). To celebrate such a great day and being there to see them and hear Prince William's speech to the crowd, we had lunch at a local pub, and I cheered Rick's with some good ol' English Boddington's Beer!!! What a day, we had such a good time on the Hill, and thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for making it all happen......we couldn't have done it with the kiddies, so glad they were enthusiastic babysitters while we did our Royal watching! PS Had to post this pic of Audrey with her Princess Di eyes.....It would have been Princess Diana's 50th birthday on Canada Day. She was such an inspiring woman - and I think my Audrey will be the same as she grows up, and she's got the Di look down pat!
