Happy Diwali 2012!!

Happy Diwali - the Festival of Lights!  It's one of the most important celebrations on the Hindu calendar, so of course, we had a little party at home.  In case you don't know, here's what it is about. 
 
Hindu homes worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesh, the God of auspicious beginnings, and then light lamps in the streets and homes to welcome prosperity and well-being and to signify the triumph of good over evil.  During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends.

Mummy picked Vila and I up from daycare a bit early and we went over to Little India and picked up some Indian Sweets for dinner - look at that table full of yummies!!!

 

At home, we had an Indian feast of butter chicken (homemade by Mummy) with some naan and palak paneer, and we lit up all our candles and laid out our Diwali coins (thanks Grandma/Grandma for our Diwali kit!)

 

After dinner, we had our presents - Vila and I each got a puzzle and Mummy got a tin of caramel popcorn.

 

To finish our Diwali post, we'll say our thanks - for our amazing family in Toronto, Ottawa, Atlanta, Chicago, England and India, for our new baby girl cousin on the way for April, our huge group of awesome friends, and everyone's health and happiness.
